At Sedgefield Community College our students are provided with lively, challenging and engaging learning experiences which are personalised to individual need. Learning programmes and lessons are carefully structured and monitored to ensure that they are engaging and relevant. Our aim is to support our students in becoming happy, successful and well-rounded citizens of the 21st century. Therefore our curriculum not only focuses on a broad range of subjects, knowledge and qualifications, it also seeks to develop the necessary skills and attributes young people need to think for themselves and to apply their learning to a fast changing world.
When students enter Year 7 they are placed into one of three learning pathways—Blue, Green or Yellow. This pathway structure is designed to match the pace and challenge within lessons to individual learners’ needs.
Key stage 3 ends in year 8 when students are then given the opportunity to personalise their curriculum through our key stage 4 pathways choices. Dependent upon pathway, optional subjects include; Design and Technology, Computing, History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Fine Art , Photography, Fashion Design, and Music.
We are ambitious for our students and want to provide them with the best opportunities to succeed in every aspect of school life. Our current curriculum offers a diverse range of opportunities to participate in community based projects, educational trips and visits and global partnerships.
Specific details of what is covered in each subject at any time in the school year can be found by viewing the Curriculum Overviews for 2019-2020 and then the subject you wish to find out more about.
