Each year this reputation is further enhanced as the performance of each year 11 cohort at Sedgefield out performs both previous year groups, and those students attending other schools across the region. Needless to say we are extremely proud of our students sustained success. Rather, we continue to search for ways in which we can adapt our practice to ensure that the quality of education we provide our students cannot be bettered elsewhere.
County Durham’s highest achieving secondary school.
Having been recognised by OFSTED as an ‘Outstanding’ school in all respects it is perhaps no surprise that in each successive year the release of GCSE results has confirmed Sedgefield Community College’s position as County Durham’s highest attaining secondary school.
Although this year (2019) the new GCSE specifications presented considerable challenges for both students and teachers across the country, Sedgefield Community College continued its path of year on year improvement. Indeed, whilst the 2018 performance was a ‘record breaker’, 2019 results have surpassed all previous successes and set a new benchmark for subsequent cohorts to aspire to.
The school is no stranger to success of this magnitude having been one of the North East and Cumbria’s highest performing secondary schools for a number of years.
As happy students and parents opened envelopes to reveal their results Headteacher Dave Davies remarked, ‘It’s so rewarding to see so many happy faces in school this morning. It’s always so pleasing for everyone concerned to see so many students overcome with joy as they see the results of their years of hard work. It is something that I personally never tire of despite the consistently high performance at Sedgefield over the years. I would like to congratulate our students and their parents on what is another record breaking set of results. I am absolutely delighted for them. Also, I would like to congratulate our truly fantastic staff team who have also worked tirelessly to ensure that all students achieve their potential. The school is fortunate to have such a group of dedicated and supremely talented staff. Well done everyone!
Chair of Governors, John Robinson added, ‘on behalf of the staff, governors and myself, I would like to congratulate our former students and wish them well for their life after Sedgefield Community College. I must also take the opportunity to thank Mr Davies and his staff for ensuring that the children in our community benefit from a standard of education which will not be bettered anywhere in the region’.
