‘Sedgefield Community College is an outstanding school’ – Ofsted March 2017
A team of six OFSTED inspectors, including two HMI (Her Majesty’s Inspectors), carried out a full inspection of Sedgefield Community College during the 8th and 9th of March 2017. The overwhelming conclusion drawn from this process is that the work of students and staff of Sedgefield Community College is outstanding in all regards.
Whilst the summary judgement of the inspection team is that the ‘overall effectiveness of the school’ is considered to be ‘outstanding’, the school also received the highest possible grading in all sub categories;
Categories and Ofsted judgements;
- Quality of Teaching, learning and assessment – OUTSTANDING
- Leadership and Management – OUTSTANDING
- Student personal development, behaviour and welfare – OUTSTANDING
- Student outcomes – OUTSTANDING
- School overall effectiveness– OUTSTANDING
These outstanding judgements are based upon extremely rigorous and detailed scrutiny of all aspects of the work of the school over an extended period of time. The Headteacher and Governors are therefore satisfied that that comments made in the body of the inspection report accurately reflect the work of the school.
We hope that the findings of OFSTED provide parents with further assurance that their children are benefitting from an extremely high standard of education and care. It is worth noting that of the inspections of secondary schools carried out during the 2015/16 academic year, only 5% were judged to be outstanding overall.

Many parents are keen to see how we are performing in relation to other schools.
The Department for Education (Dfe) Performance Tables (sometimes known as league tables) provide a reliable and accessible source of comparative information on pupil attainment and progress, absence, workforce and finance. The Performance Tables include new national performance measures such as ‘progress 8’ and ‘attainment 8’ scores as well as some more familiar statistics relating to the English Baccalaureate and English and Maths performance . You can find the School Performance Tables from the DfE by clicking the link below.
