Careers Education @ SCC
Sedgefield Community College provides all of our students with an excellent package of careers education that prepares them to achieve success in the next stage of their lives beyond our school. Beginning in Year Seven and going right through to the end of Year Eleven, our students access a wide range of guidance and support that ensures they are ready for the challenges of further study or the world of work. A crucial aspect of this is the fact that we have fostered excellent links with the wide variety of post 16 education providers in the area.
For more detail about specific elements of the Careers Journey, please click here.
www.Help4Teens.co.uk is a new website from Durham County Council which is available for you to access from both at home and at school. There are many parts to the website but parhaps the most important one is the on-line prospectus.
In here are the applications for sixth form colleges, higher education colleges and schools, you can also fill in the application online and read about what the establishment offers. It's that easy so why not give it a go?
Exploring Careers at Home
All of the students at SCC are able to access a number of Careers Software Packages at home. These packages provide students with an excellent opportunity to reflect on their own ideas about their possible future career and also to begin to identify what this career might be and what they need to do in order to pursue it.
We would strongly recommend that students take time to look at these packages and also suggest that they are something that parents and their children can explore together. Details of the three packages and what each is actually for are below:
Cascaid Launchpad – This is an online IAG resource which shows you how to profile and develop the skills you will acquire on your journey through the school. There is information about GCSE subjects and Diploma choice so it will be useful at Option Choice time in Year 9, as well as during the whole of KS3. There is also an area to explore different careers which will be useful if there is a career that interests you during a school careers event and you want to find out more.
Cascaid Kudos- Is a Careers based programme that is mainly suitable for KS4 pupils , although it is something that KS3 students may also wish to explore. It is a site based upon Careers investigation and you begin by answering a series of questions. The results of these questions then match you up to a series of careers which match your preferences and you can investigate these further. The beauty of this site is that you can return to this site as you progress through the school and your priorities change.
Cascaid Careerscape- Again, this is principally for KS4 pupils as it is a Careers Information database. There are over 1800 Careers Titles for you to investigate and a very useful User Guide that will give you full information to the whole of the website when you enter it. It also has a Higher Education guide which will give you information about how to apply to =, Sixth form Colleges and Higher Education Colleges so it is something well worth checking out during Year 11.
To access each package for the first time you must enter the license code in the box. This is the same for all pupils and is 'timeyear99'. On the second occasion that you login, you will be able to create your own user name and password – please make sure to make a note of these!

SCC Post 16 Options
At the end of their time at Sedgefield Community College, we are very anxious to ensure that all of our students go on to ACHIEVE great success in the future. Crucial to this is the need to ensure that the right choices are made at the end of Y11. There is a huge amount of guidance and advice out there on the internet and through other sources about Post 16 options and it can be difficult to navigate through all of this. With this in mind, we’ve looked to bring together some of the key information that you might need on the SCC website.
As a school, Sedgefield Community College looks to foster strong links with a range of local Post 16 education and training providers. Over a period of many years, we have formed a particularly strong working relationship with Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form Centre in Darlington. We continue to enjoy an excellent partnership with QE, but are also now establishing stronger links with other providers and most particularly New College Durham, Bishop Auckland College and East Durham College.
Ultimately though, we have no reason to want any of our students to choose any specific Post 16 education or training provider. Our intention is to ensure that our students have the fullest possible understanding of the range of options that are available to them and receive the necessary guidance to ensure that they make the right choices.
