At the point that Sedgefield Community College joins the Laidlaw Schools Trust in Spring 2020, it has been agreed that the college will be centrally placed to significantly influence the direction of secondary education across the trust. Given that the college is one of the few OFSTED rated ‘outstanding’ secondary schools in the North East, this decision is understandable and will hopefully benefit all secondary schools within the trust. However, to ensure that this transitional period is well managed and that there is no detriment to the quality of education at the college, current SCC Headteacher, Dave Davies agreed to step down from his position and take a strategic trust wide role. As a result, the position of Headteacher at Sedgefield was recently advertised and following an extensive selection process Mr Geoff Robinson was appointed to take on this role from September 2020. Mr Robinson has been a Deputy Headteacher at the college for 10 years and, as someone who has worked closely with Mr Davies, he knows the school extremely well, therefore Governors are confident he will prove to be an exceptional appointment.
As Mr Robinson takes on the position of Headteacher, Mr Davies will focus upon ensuring that consistent processes are applied across the trust, whilst supporting the work of each of the secondary schools within the Laidlaw Schools Trust. However, Governors are pleased to say that this will also include Sedgefield Community College and we know Mr Davies will ensure that Mr Robinson, our students, and the community, gain maximum benefit from being part of the trust.
